【英语】高一英语组唐朝霞老师研讨课

2019415日上午,高一英语组唐朝霞老师为组内老师呈现了一堂主题为Module 4 Unit 3 Reading: Not just watching a film的公开研讨课。

本堂课为阅读课的第二堂课,用以读促写的形式来引导学生探讨主题:How to make a business presentation clear and logic。唐朝霞老师以视频形式作为导入,激活学生所学VR知识,让学生表述自己对VR的理解。随后唐老师让学生再次深读文本,对课文进行深入挖掘,找出可以借鉴的词块,分析文中所用的写作技巧,为学生的写作提供一个基本框架。最后学生以小组形式进行探讨与分享各自的作品,挑选出最佳作品向全班进行展示。

课后,备课组各位细细品味课堂精彩之处,并对此堂课展开热烈探讨。本堂课导入自然,用语准确,内容详实,但是应该进一步提高学生的参与度,丰富活动形式。公开研讨课给老师们提供一个自我提升的平台,让我们的课堂更具活力。对新课标的探讨,我们一直在路上。

1.     To help students go over some useful expressions in the reading passage.

2.  To guide students find out the ways to make business presentation clear and convincing:   compare and present detailed information.

3.  To ask Students to write a short passage to explore the use of VR in classroom by using the expressions and skills in the reading passage.

 This is the second period of the reading passage. In the previous one, Ss finished reading the contents. The main aim of this period is to help students under the contents of reading strategy and apply what they learn to writing.

Step 1  Warm-up

1.Play a video clip to help students better understand what VR is.

2. Ask Ss to explain “What is Virtual reality?” in English.

Step 2  Revision

A game

Step 3  Presentation

Lead Ss to read the passage again, and help them find out what ways the writer used to make his presentation clear and conving .

1. Have Ss read paragraph one. Ask them to pay attention to words used to introduce the product.

Present the sentence on PPT “The RealCine experience will amaze you, and you will agree that this is an extraordinary technology that deserves to be developed further.”

Ask Ss the following questions:

1) If you introduce a new product, what words will you prefer to use?

2) The RealCine experience will amaze you = The RealCine experience is __________.

3) Can you think of more amazing situations that will amaze you or make you feel amazed?

an amazing ___________( performance/ success/ discovery/ achievement/ …)

When you put on your VR headsets, it is a totally amazing/ deserving/ magical/wonderful/ immersive/ experience. 

2. Have Ss read paragraph two. Ask them to think about the question Which sentence tells them RealCine is better than other ordinary films?

Present the sentence on the PPT. “Unlike a film, where a passive audience watches and hears what is happening on a screen, RealCine puts you into the action and connects with your senses of sight, hearing, smell and touch in an active way.

Tell Students can use comparisons to show people the advantages of your product.  

e.g. Unlike traditional plastic, which cause lots of environmental problems because it can hardly break down over a long period, bioplastic is able to break down easily/ instantly_ in hot water.

Unlike ordinary cars, for which getting stuck in traffic jams is a common problem, flying cars arebe a cross between a helicopter and an airplane and will set you free from the daily annoying situations.   

Unlike common science class, which is usually boring, ineffective and expensive, RealCine may create a virtual lab, which are equipped with million-dollar equipment and where students can learn _happily and effectively.  

3. Have Ss read Paragraph 4 to 7. Ask them the following question:

1) Besides entertainment, what other fields can RealCine be used?

2) If we want to give examples , what expressions are we usually use?

3) In this article, there are many examples are given? Which one is the best ? Why?

no standard answers. but later T may tell Ss her / his idea on the best examples. Firstly, It should be clear. This means it includes detailed information about the subject given. For example, a teenager who was afraid of talking and playing with his schoolmate;  a seventy-year-old grandfather, the captain of the Brazilian football team , a burning building;  etc. Second, contrast is also a clever strategy in this part. Such as “recently took a trip” .. in reality, he is disabled and can no longer walk. This contrast may make readers have strong feeling about the examples the writer give. Lastly, try to use lots of positive statements and adjectives to persuade people into buying your product.

Step 4  Writing

1. Tell Ss that after knowing about the technology behind RealCine, our headmaster is very interested in it. She would like you to further explain how you can use this in our school. Please write a short passage to make her believe RealCine can be used in real class teaching.

Requirement 1. Examples must be given.

             2. Try to use at least five of the following expressions in your passage and underline them in your passage.

 amaze ;   unlike,   with the aid of,  in the convenience of ;  allow … to do;   bring…alive; 

 provide… for 

2) Presentation

Encouraged Ss to come to the blackboard to share their examples and let student judges to decide whose passage is more persuasive.
